Misuga has rapidly grown into one of the largest ship management companies in the world. This success is no surprise given the group of managers who have led Misuga for many years. With their extensive maritime backgrounds and diverse experience, they will continue to expand and improve the company in the years to come.
Mr. Ichiro Tamai
Mr. Tamai has been serving as a director of Daio Kaiun Co., Ltd., a sister company of Misuga Kaiun Co., Ltd, since 1995. He was appointed as President in 2012 and keeps his office today.
Mr. Tamai was appointed as President of Misuga as well in June 2016 to achieve more effective management of the whole Misuga-Daio Kaiun group.
Mr. Masami Iwai
Executive Senior Managing Director
Mr. Iwai joined Misuga in 2007 as General Manager of the Business Department. Within three years of his joining Misuga, the company’s gross revenues increased by nearly 50 percent. In 2010 he was promoted to Managing Director, and since then has been instrumental in increasing the further growth in Misuga’s gross revenues by an additional 50 percent.
Mr. Iwai played an important role in helping Misuga penetrate into the European, as well as Japanese, markets. He was responsible for the expansion of the company’s managed fleet and owned vessels.
Mr. Koji Terao
Executive Senior Managing Director
Mr. Terao started his career in the Information Technology field as a system engineer in 1983 at a major Japanese paper company. He also has extensive experience in woodchip and coal importation and worked with numerous shipping companies. Mr. Terao studied and worked in the United States for five years during his tenure with the paper company.
Mr. Terao joined Misuga in 2013 and was appointed as Director to lead the Business Division and Information System Section in 2014. Since June 2015, Mr. Terao has served as Managing Director. June 2016, he was appointed as Executive Senior Managing Director.
Mr. Masahiko Shoda
Senior Managing Director
Mr. Shoda started his career in the maritime industry with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (“MOL”) in 1981. He has extensive experience in dry bulk cargoes, especially thermal coal transportation for electric power companies. He was General Manager of that Division at MOL. Mr. Shoda transferred to Inui Steamship Co., Ltd. in 2010 and was appointed as Director to lead the Business Division in 2012.
In June 2014, Mr. Shoda joined Misuga as Managing Director. With over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry, Mr. Shoda’s contribution to Misuga’s growth has been significant. In June 2016, he was appointed as Senior Managing Director.
Mr. Hisao Yokouchi
Mr. Yokouchi started his career as a merchant marine officer and sailed for 15 years. Mr. Yokouchi joined Misuga in 1995 as a member of the Crewing Department and later helped establish the Manila branch of Misuga in the Philippines. As the Branch Manager in Manila he was instrumental in building an exclusive manning agency and ship management company in the Philippines. Through his hard work and dedication Misuga’s seafarer pool in the Philippines has grown to over 3500 seafarers.
Mr. Yokouchi has supervised the Purchasing Department since 2014.
Mr. Tsuyoshi Nakamura
Mr. Nakamura, with a major in business accounting and taxes, started his career as a licensed tax consultant in Japan. He worked in a public accounting firm for five years where he met and served a varied clientele of individuals and corporations.
Since joining Misuga in 1996 he has implemented new accounting systems, established foreign subsidiaries and acquired over 15 years of experience in the financial side of the shipping industry.
Mr. Nakamura supervises the Finance, Accounting, Human Resources and Administration Divisions of Misuga.
Mr. Yasuhiro Sone
Mr. Sone is in charge of the Ship Management Division for all Misuga group companies. Mr. Sone joined Misuga in 1991 in the Ship Management Department after graduating from Hiroshima National College of Marine Technology. Mr. Sone, starting as a technical superintendent, has dedicated his professional life to ship management. Mr. Sone started his career managing a single wood chip carrier –Misuga’s first managed fleet vessel– and has become an expert in wood chip carriers.
Mr. Sone supervises over 90 vessels including bulk carriers, container ships and wood chip carriers.
Mr. Hirohiko Tsuchiya
Mr. Tsuchiya has 35 years of experience in the maritime industry. He started his career booking cargo for container/general cargo vessels for 10 years. He has specialized in business development of general tramper-chartering, operation, and post-fixture for past 25 years, working for several shipping companies.
Mr. Tsuchiya joined Misuga in 2013 as General Manager of the Business Department. He is responsible for the ship owning businesses and business development of the ship management businesses. Mr. Tsuchiya was appointed as Director to lead the Business Division in 2015.
Mr. Kenji Fujita
Mr. Fujita started his career as a merchant marine officer with Sanko Line in 1981. Since 1985, Mr. Fujita has explored various professions. Mr. Fujita joined Misuga in 2004 in the Crew Management Department. Mr. Fujita served as the Branch Manager of Manila from 2007 to 2013 and significantly expanded Misuga’s seafarer pool during his tenure there. Mr. Fujita assumed responsibility for the Crew Management Division as General Manager in December 2013.
Mr. Fujita was appointed as Director to lead Crew Management Division in 2015.
